Bessemer Venture Partners recently published Talent Trends for the AI-Native C-Suite, exploring how AI is changing leadership across engineering, finance, product, sales, and marketing.
I contributed to the marketing section, which looks at an important shift: the best marketing leaders aren’t just adopting AI tools. They’re using AI to build smarter systems, move faster, and connect marketing execution more directly to pipeline.
Here are four takeaways that stand out to me.
1) Marketing Leaders Are Becoming Systems Builders
AI fluency is quickly becoming part of the CMO job. The best leaders are building systems that connect customer insights, marketing execution, and measurement so their teams can move faster and scale what works.
2) Automate the Work That Slows Your Team Down
AI can take repetitive, manual work off your team’s plate. That might mean monitoring campaign performance, scoring leads, analyzing customer signals, or automating workflows that used to take hours.

3) Personalization and Precision Are the Bigger Unlock
AI makes it possible to personalize marketing at a scale that used to be reserved for high-touch ABM programs. The bigger opportunity is using better signals to improve what you say, who you say it to, and when.
As I shared in the article:
“Speed and analysis get a lot of attention, but the bigger unlock is personalization and precision. AI allows marketers to tailor their message and timing of every touchpoint based on real signals from that account or similar ones. These are the kinds of judgment calls that used to require hours of manual analysis and can now happen almost instantly.”
– Allyson Letteri, Bessemer Operating Advisor
That means marketers can make smarter targeting and timing decisions without the same level of manual analysis.

4) AI Fluency Is Becoming a Core Marketing Leadership Skill
Marketing leaders don’t need to become engineers, but they do need to know how to build and experiment with AI. That means understanding what the tools can do, creating new workflows, and continuously testing better ways to work.
The Opportunity: More Leverage for Great Marketers
AI gives great marketers more leverage to understand customers, make better decisions, and execute faster.
The leaders who combine strong customer judgment and marketing craft with AI fluency will be best positioned to take advantage of what’s next.
